I just read Tyler and His Solve-a-Matic Machine and did a book review for the author. They may want me to appear on TV with them. They link to my blog here and in their entrepreneurship resources here. Thanks. Below is the review I wrote for them. You should buy the book if you are a kid or have kids that like the idea of having a business.

Tyler And His Solve-A-matic Machine

Tyler And His Solve-A-matic Machine is fun, interactive, and well written.
I would give this amazing book a five star rating. It teaches kids about business and entrepreneurs in a whole new level. I call this level The Fun Kid Level. It teaches kids a fun way about business. From hamburger seeds, to pirate parrots, its all about fun and business.

I liked the book because it teaches you to work hard, don’t stop till you reach the final level, and that you can do anything!

This book has taught me a lot of things. Here are some of the things it taught me.

  • I remembered why I started my business. To reach my goal.
  • Work harder in one hour than in a week.
  • Be proud of my business wherever it takes me.
  • Face my goals, don’t hide from them.
  • And meeting the right people that can take me far in my business

The first page of the book sprung up at me like a joker in a box. It was fascinating. I read more than half of the book in one sitting. By day two I had devoured the entire book with ease.

I would recommend this exciting book to every child who’s looking to make money by starting a company.

I have decided to change the company some to make it more profitable and easy to manage. Before I was buying products and then selling them. It was hard because some things sell and some do not, so I do not make enough money.

I decided to keep selling some products, but also use other companies to make money. Now I get a little bit of money for each thing you buy at Amazon with my links. Even though it is not a lot, it is easy because I do not have to buy the products or mail them.

I go to amazon.com and pick out animal products that I think other kids would like. It’s very fun to go and see so many animal products that I can put on my website. I would like to manufacture some products in the future but right now I am focusing on getting some money so I can manufacture and $ell my own products in the future.

One of my favorite things to do is to go on Amazon and find products to put on my website.

Here are some of the pages I have put up:

Horse Club Links

Marine Club Links

Safari Club Links

Best Friends Links

Dinosaur Club Links

Thank you for visiting my website.

Orca Glow Lamp

Yesterday, I learned that I had just sold my Orca Glow Lamp!

I was very excited when I learned that I had sold it. I love selling products and shipping them off to different cities, and states. I sold the Orca Glow Lamp to a person in Boston.

Tomorrow, I am going to ship the orca glow lamp to Boston; last time I sold something it took almost the whole day to ship it because the fake aquarium wouldn’t fit into the boxes, finally we went to my dad’s office and found a box that did fit.

I hope that this year I can really work a lot on my business and help it grow bigger.

I went to a conference. They had all kind of cool workshops and my dad had one workshops telling about his companies Buzzoodle and Outstanda. I meet a lot of nice people that said to ask for things. There were a few speakers that told about dreams and goals.

I also got a really cool hat from a one of the workshops the person who sold it to me was very nice so i want to put a picture of me with the hat on and some information about the company. I got to go up on stage and tell a little about my company, the speakers also gave me a nice T-shirt it was very nice even though it was a little to big I could use it as a nightgown. There was tons of great food I ate four pieces of small pizza, they were the best pizza I had ever tasted. I am so happy I went to the event.

I got an award for my business at Akron Business Conference. Ron Finkelstein gave me the award. Thank you Ron.

The award was for being such a young entrepreneur. The conference had good food and snacks and I got to meet a lot of people. I saw presentations about people’s businesses.

The award is a big word that says success and it has a little metal plaque that says the conference name.

It was fun and interesting. I had my business cards printed by a printer finally so I had a lot of them to pass out.

About one week ago we went to Chicago because my dad needed to go to some important meetings. When we got back the computer wasn’t working well so I couldn’t to blog post or anything so that’s why I don’t have any new post on my website.

We got an order for an aquarium tank with fake fish and marine life. We sent it to a lady who owns a cat spa and wanted to see if the cats would like the fish.

And the best part is that the cats liked it and the lady would like thirty to forty more.

A couple of weeks ago my camera broke. My dad and I have been looking at different places that sell cameras. I found a lot I liked but they were too expensive.

I need to take pictures so I can use them for some of our products. We’re going to ask Larry from Larry’s Stables if we can take pictures of his horses. That way I can use the pictures for the cover of my Kids Roar Horse Club book I am publishing.

Now Easier for Kids to Join

It is now easier for kids to join the Kids Roar Board.  We changed to rules because it was too much work and money for each kid to be a real investor in the company.  Now, any kid age 8 to 12 can join if they have a company sponsor them.  They are on the Board of Advisors, and if the company is profitable they can get some money.

We have a new page for Kids Roar sponsorship.  If you are a business owner and can sponsor us, I know a lot of kids that want to join.  We will write a profile about each company that sponsors a kid on this website and give them other things too.  See this document.

I hope that with these changes we can make faster progress. We want to start manufacturing our own products soon.

Tonight I got very tired because we worked on it so much.  I hope more sales start to come in.

Read about our big changes to operations here.  It will make it easier to have more kids involved with the business and it will mean I can stop having the bill with my lawyers go up.  Instead of trying to make everyone an owner, we are making everyone an advisor and will pay out money to advisors if we are profitable.

If you are a business and want to support kids in entrepreneurship, you can now be a sponsor and be on our website and more.  Plus, you get to choose which kid (age 8-12) is on the board of advisors.

Now, instead of $20,000 once, we are asking businesses to sponsor a kid at $5,000.  That will give us the money to get going.  Please email me if you are interested.

The carnival at The Streetsboro Family Days was long and tiring; it was a good experiment, even though we lost a little bit of money and didn’t make any profit.

We met some new people and made some sales on the Internet.  I even got a twenty dollars for a nightlight that we didn’t have but we could get it. We can actually get one of the nightlights with anything on it.

Here  is the breakdown of the carnival money.

We made $340.75

Our COGS - Cost of goods sold (My dad helped me with that) is different for each product.  For the glass block night lights our COGS is $12

For our paint and play set it is $7

Large horse frame $9.15

Horse Door Knocker $ 3.70

Horse Plaques $ 3.10

Dog Puzzle: $1.40

Horse Busts $ 3.10

Foam Craft Safari Set: $.80

Marine Stickers: $.80

Miniature Horses $18 for 72

Stuffed Cheeta $5.60 (I did not want to sell it because it was so cute.)

The cost of what products sold was: $205.75

Cost of Booth at fair was $145

Cost of Tent $90

Cost of kids roar sign: $22

Misc. Decorations: $8

--------------------

$340.75 Income

$205.75 COGS

----------------

$135 After cost

-$145 Rent

----------------

-$10 Lost

Plus we lost another $120 on tent, sign and decorations, but we can use them again so maybe we can make money the next time.

Here is what I learned:

  • Very nice people were there.
  • Next time I want to do a shorter show that is busier.
  • It shoudl be by a busy road so more people will see it.
  • I need to have more cheap things that people will easily buy their kids.
  • I need to make sure people know it is my business.

We might try it again but I need a break for a week or two.  I was so tired.

A couple days ago me and my family went to The Flower Factory. We bought a lot of stuff with horses and much more. It was very fun and also very exciting for me and my business I hope the products we selected will sell well and we will make a lot of profit for the business. I’m going to tell you some of the products we selected from The Flower Factory. An orca whale model that lights up, a statue of a beautiful horse, horse heads with western gear on the side, and much more

Remember all the products we sell will be child friendly and most important animal friendly.

Like mugs with horses and t-shirts with dogs on them, It was very cool. We will be selling nightlights already painted and also some nightlights you can paint yourself, and you will have a glowing beautiful glass block nightlight to take home with you.

The glass block nightlights that are already painted are on our website. We hope to have some more products up soon, I would also like to have our next board meeting at the Cleveland Zoo in July sometime, because we went to Washington D.C. and things got a little bit messed up.

Washington D.C. and fun, fun Book Expo America

A couple weeks ago my family and I went to Washington D.C. one day my dad and Phil Gerbyshak went to the Book Expo to help their friend named David Lorenzo promote his book Career Intensity. They said it was very fun, so the next day I went to the Book Expo with my mom, my little sister, my dad and Phil Gerbyshak. I helped David pass out mints and later on the day passed out little pieces of paper to people who might be interested in getting the book signed by the author. It was great fun for me and family and I hoped I was a great help to David Lorenzo. A week after we had been to Washington D.C. I received a package from David and his wife with all L’Oreal products, and some toys from Maya and Miguel the cartoon.

See what dave said about me here.

Yesterday I went to Gala fundraiser for my Suzuki School. Lots of people brought things to auction off. Kids Roar brought two beautiful glass block nightlights. One was a night light of lots of animals which sold for $12. The other was a beautiful glass block nightlight of the Bay mother and filly that sold for $37. Lots of people were bidding on it. I told some kids that if they didn’t win the nightlight they could go to my website and buy the nightlights of their choice and maybe buy more than one.

All the glass block nightlights are up and ready to sell but we have not sold any yet.

Also we are going to have a table at the Kent art in the park and sell our nightlights at our table and also we are going to have plain glass block night lights that you can paint to. We are going to sell the finished nightlights for $24.95 and the plain glass block nightlights you can paint by your self will be $ 20.00.

We are going to sell our glass block nightlights and the plain glass block nightlight for the same price at the Harradige Festival and have a booth.

I am also going to be on channel three news I think. They called and want to interview me. Also this summer maybe we will have a table in f ron t of the Leloli cafÉ in the summer and sell my products.

All of the glass block nightlights are up and we are ready to get selling. I am less busy but I have to plan my next event. If I emailed any of the kids that went to my last meeting and told you that the next event was going to be at the end of May it is actually going to be at the being of June because I am going to be in Washington DC.

Finally we are going to get revenues with our product release. Revenue is when money comes into your business. We need some revenues to pay for more products to be developed.

The next move is to start to sign kids up for the board of directors and have our next event. We are going to try to call the Cleveland Zoo today to see if we can have our second event there.

We are also trying to put our glass block nightlights up on the website for sale.

Our lawyers have already got all the paper work done so, now we can start signing kids up.

We are thinking about our next event. We are going to try to have the next board meeting at the Cleveland zoo and have a product design contest and we are going to ask if we can get a small tour about the animals in the zoo and if we are really lucky maybe a tour of the animal hospital in the zoo. I hope we can have it at the zoo because I really love animals and I think other people do to but we have not asked the zoo yet but I hope they say yes.

Today I am going to the Cleveland Zoo and I am going to see if I can talk to someone.

In the past we have had one meeting it was called the Kids Roar kickoff meeting I think our next meeting will also be a success and I hope we can also get some more board members on the board to make the business grow bigger and bigger. I am very excited about my business.

The documents will be ready soon. I found out it will be too hard to include kids from other states, so you will have to be in Ohio to be a Kids Roar Board Member. Kids from other states can be advisors, but cannot invest in the company.

I am so excited about having the documents ready. I hope that the business does well. I also am very excited about having our first two board members. I think they will help so much to help the company grow and become successful.

Yesterday morning I went to the red room revolution meeting, the host was Cathy Panzica who ran it very well. I am very happy I went. I learned a lot too. I also met a lot of new people.

The Red Room Evolution is a group of people doing economic development in the Cleveland area.

I met the following people, and more:

  • Laura Koballa of Team NEO
  • Leslie Carruthers president of The Search Guru
  • Jim Cookinham, President of NEOSA

I also saw some people I know.

  • Lisa Oliver of Key Bank
  • Jonathon Vinocur of Thompson Hine

There were some other people but I do not have their card or remember their name. The meeting was about all the things they are doing to get more technology companies to come to Cleveland. I am sure a lot of the people were surprised to see me at the meeting. I was there because I had a meeting with my lawyers right before it and my dad had to go to the meeting so I got to go to.

Can Kids Roar get a line of Credit?

Last Thursday I met with some people at Key Bank: Lisa Oliver, Cleveland District President and Cheryl Petrof, Business Sales Officer for Key4Women. (She has a dog named Tipsy and loves animals)

They are trying to help me get a line of credit for Kids Roar for about $10,000. I actually was expecting much less but that is the minimum they can do. I don’t think I will need the line of credit to much but my dad said I was important to start building a line of credit right now.

Lisa Oliver gave me a bobble head of LeBron James.

They are going to contact me next week to find out if we can get the line of credit.

I also received a check for $500 dollars from National City Bank at the women’s conference two weeks ago and I also got a hundred dollar check from grandma to help me grow my business, so that equals up to $600 and when I pay the bill it will be $400 still left.

My lawyers and I got together a few days ago. We are trying to get all of the documents done so that people can sign up. It is a lot of work. They had some great ideas about how the board of directors would work and ideas that would help kids get money so their parents would not have to pay the $20,000. We are going to allow companies to sponsor a board seat and help select the kid that will serve on it. Parents can still just pay for the seat too, and those are the kinds of things we are working on.

Yesterday was the Kids Roar Kickoff Event.  I did my presentation to the kids.  We had 13 kids at the first meeting.  The weather was bad and some people did not make it because of the snow.

I thought the presentation went really well.  Charlie Bowman from the city of Kent did a nice job of talking to the kids and had gift bags for everyone.

All the kids and their parents seemed very interested in signing up, but we do not have the documents done yet to do that.  They had a lot of questions for me.

Each of the kids got up and told about their product idea and what they liked about Kids Roar.  Everyone liked the idea that kids are in charge and the kids like it that they can fire the adult employees.

We voted on some hand-made night lights to sell and we hope to sell them soon.

The City gave me a nice pen.

We all went to the Rec center after the meeting and had a lot of fun.

My dad and I will post pictures of the event soon.

Alexandra and I (her dad) spent the day at the Women's conference and she had a great time.  National City Bank awarded her a $500 check and Alexandra got to sit with all kinds of special people that are leaders, politicians and entrepreneurs.  She will write about it more after this Saturday, but she has a full schedule until then.

She has already taken her $500 life savings and doubled it, so she is off to a great start.

Alexandra has gotten a lot of great emails and she will be answering everyone soon.  It takes a while to read and answer each one especially when you have only been typing for a few years.

I have been in the news a lot this week.  See all of the news items on the newsroom side for a list.

Brad Harvey interviewed me for News Net 5 and I was on TV tonight.

Here is a picture.

I had lots of fun that everyone interviewed me and that I am going to be in lots of  newspaper.

Also I am so excited about the informational meeting on Febuary 18, 06 we have decided that we are going to have it at Kent State University.  Half of the informational meeting will be playing basketball, swimming , and other activities.  The other half will be information and a product desgin contest.
